As far back as I can remember, society had played a huge part of how I viewed myself as a person and even how I felt about myself when I looked in the mirror. I realized after many years that I had fed into the negativity of being plus size and continued participating on this hamster wheel of body perfection I had continued to chase. This was not living for me. This was not the embracing who I was as a person and definitely not the journey I had envisioned for a healthier me.But then!!! I had an “Awakening Moment” on my last haul to a big retail clothing store. They clearly modeled unspoken words that plus size women could not be as stylish, classy, sexy, or have comfortable wear. Like many stores, these unspoken words are often seen on their ads, store mannequins, or only having limited wear on their racks for plus size figures. This was crazy to me and it has gone on for so long and we have allowed it!!! Ripping up my last retail clothing store ad, I said, “Enough is enough!” I’ll create my own brand where plus-size fashion would not down sized in trendiness or limited in appeal but would be a store made for us by us!!” That day Thicky Thicky Fashion was conceived.
I knew in my heart that very day that Thicky Thick Fashion would reach a tribe of “Thick Besties” all across the world who shared similar stories of wanting to take back their lives in confidence by living out loud boldly. This body positive movement would spark a flame of unity to the society and the world around a message clear that beauty comes in all sizes. I also knew that my brand would create a safe space where plus-size women beautifully unalike could and would be comfortable in their skin. Here at Thicky Thick Fashion we embrace “Fashion on Every Curve.”
Q & A
I am often asked, Am I still on my journey to a healthier me? Yes!! I promote health & wellness of the mind, body, and spirit but now… “I” control the narrative to my journey and refuse to live up to the standards of what society has deemed beauty based on body perfection. My beliefs are that I am beautiful and wonderfully made no matter my size.
Another question I am asked, “Do I love how I feel when I look good?” Yes absolutely!! I look good therefore I feel good!! It makes me want to keep reaching my health goals and this is a fact for many people that we are indeed moved in feeling by what we see. This can be a great thing when we use this approach for ourselves and not a tool to compare ourselves against others. Again it’s about taking back control of our own narrative.
I look forward to connecting with my Thick Besties and doing life together where we share our struggles as well as our victories. Follow me on Instagram, Tik-Tok and Facebook. Oh yeah and also be on the look out for my podcast “Coming Soon” where we will continuing to create a safe space while diving into matters of the heart while building a community unapologetically Thicky Thick
